About the Project

Preserving the stories that shaped our towns

The Sandwell Walker is a long-term heritage project documenting the history of Sandwell through films, research, maps, archive material and local memories.

Many of the streets, industries, schools, estates and community landmarks that shaped everyday life have already disappeared. The project exists to record their stories and connect surviving evidence with the places we see today.

Although many visitors first discover the project through YouTube, this website is being built as a permanent and freely accessible historical resource.
